The Office of Admissions at JSU is committed to providing you with information regarding your future enrollment. Our office is now operating through a remote workplace. We will continue to serve your needs in this new format! Here are some things we are doing to help:

  • Effective April 8, 2020, JSU will waive admission ACT/SAT test score requirements for first-time freshman students entering in Summer or Fall 2020.
  • First-time freshman and transfer scholarships will be awarded through the first day of the Fall 2020 semester. The scholarship upgrade (to allow for submission of additional test scores) deadline was extended from May 1 to August 1.
  • JSU’s priority decision deadline is May 1; however, JSU practices rolling admission. JSU will accept applications through the beginning of the Fall 2020 semester.

As of now, Orientation is still planned as normal. We will re-evaluate our plans at the beginning of May and make decisions based on state government recommendations/policies in place.

Absolutely! Spaces are still filling up fast so if you want one of the earlier sessions, register now. Even if Orientation were to be delayed, you will keep your order in Orientation (ex. Session A will still be Session A no matter the date).

Yes! If you have not applied, you need to complete an application. If you have already applied, you’ll need to update your application term by completing this quick form. Reach out to your Admissions Counselor so we can get you connected with the Orientation team to help with registration. Summer coursework will not impact your freshman scholarship, although freshman scholarships only begin in the Fall semester.

Jump Start Dual Enrollment Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that you are high school students who are following the guidelines of your general education classes; however, in order to properly grant you college credit at the end of the semester the college class material should follow the syllabus and move ahead as possible. We know this is a very challenging time, and we have asked your instructors to be flexible through the rest of the semester. JSU is observing spring break beginning tomorrow, March 19-30. You may find that your dual enrollment instructors may not assign any new work during that time. If your school system has already observed a spring break, your instructor may choose to continue with assignments.

Many instructors have provided essay assignments, projects, and material that can be done without WiFi access over the course of the next two weeks. As stated previously, some may choose to observe JSU’s spring break and you may not have assignments due from March 19-30. Students should ask their dual enrollment instructor on specific assignments for their class. Our academic affairs faculty and staff are working on a plan should schools (including JSU) continue to need additional virtual support after the two-week period.

JSU is aware many of our students have not used Canvas (the preferred Learning Management System [LMS] for JSU) if they have been taking classes at their high school. Instructors have been approved to use the LMS their local school uses(Google classroom, etc.) if they are not currently using Canvas.

All of our adjunct faculty and JSU staff recognize this is an unprecedented situation for our students. We will all work closely with students to reassure them and help to promote academic success. Students may find their instructors use a variety of approaches to accomplish assignments on the syllabus (conference calls, Zoom meetings, or simply providing assignments via email). It is even more important now that students check their JSU and school email for updates on course assignments. In the end, we will all resolve to use as much flexibility as necessary for you to complete the semester.

April 15 is still the due date for the Fall 2020 Jump Start Scholarship application. The main reason this deadline has been extended is because we have a goal to award these scholarships before the school year ends so that you can financially plan for your fall classes.

Possibly one of the biggest disruptions to our normal practices is that our office cannot visit your school to assist with summer and fall registration. Please continue to check your JSU email or the JSU Admissions Facebook for possible Live Events as well as Zoom tutorials for how to register. We also have the online student manual that provides step-by-step instructions on how to register for classes along with screenshots. Note: If you have been granted early access to our program, you will not be able to register until you are admitted (upon our office receiving your high school authorization form). Please know that you have plenty of time to accomplish this task and we will work with you to ensure you are ready for the Fall semester. If you are considering summer classes, please contact your guidance counselor for further instruction.

We will also be waiving the need for students to complete the Course Selection Form in order to register. However, your registration will be conditional until your guidance counselor gives final approval. A final report will be sent to schools listing all registration for all students. If a course is not approved, JSU reserves the right to remove your registration. We’ve requested all school counselors to send all official document requests electronically via email, Parchment, Send, or any other free resource to our processing team.

We will also be granting students without a High School Authorization form EARLY ACCESS to our program. This will allow all new students to be able to complete scholarship applications and other important steps needed. However, as stated, they will not be able to register for classes due to admissions hold on their account. If a HSAF is submitted on the students’ behalf, the student will be able to complete registration.

If you are registering for EH 101, you will need to log into your MyJSU, Select Placement Exam, and start the English EdReady. You will need to complete the skill path until you get a 90. Then you will email Mrs. Knight at to let her know you have gotten the required score.

If you are registering for MS 112, you will need to log into your MyJSU Select Placement Exam, and start the Math EdReady. You will need a score of 80 to take MS 112. You will not need to email Mrs. Knight when you reach this score as the system will update in 24 hours to unlock registration for this class.

Yes! JSU does not have a hard deadline for the admissions applications. Students can apply to JSU until the first day of the Summer 2020 or Fall 2020 semester

No! Once we receive all your supplemental items, we will be able to provide an admissions decision within 5-7 business days. Be sure to opt into text messaging to get updates through the admissions process?

Yes, we are offering a full schedule of summer classes! All summer courses will be offered online at a discounted rate! If you are admitted for the fall and want to take summer classes, just complete the Application Update Request Form to change your entry term!

  • Admitted transfer students can register for classes during priority registration until their entry term begins.
  • Students must meet virtually with an academic advisor in order to be cleared to register for classes. Meeting with an academic advisor ensure students take the correct courses and are on track to graduate.
  • To find out who your academic advisor is, contact your transfer admissions counselor.
  • Be sure to use your JSU email address and include your student number when emailing your academic advisor to set up a virtual appointment.
  • Transfer students that attend Transfer Orientation can register for classes at orientation.

As of now, no changes have been made to the Transfer Orientation sessions scheduled for June 12th and August 13th. We will meet later in early May to determine if changes will be made and will communicate any changes to students. Though orientation is not required for transfer students, we encourage you to register today for orientation. Seats are filling up fast!

Our financial aid office is still working to serve you! You can check your MyJSU account to see if your FAFSA has been processed and if you have any outstanding requirements. If you have questions or your financial situation has changed since the COVID-19 pandemic started, you can email or call 256-782-5006.

Yes, transfer merit scholarships will be awarded until the first day of the Fall 2020 semester. The deadline for the PTK Transfer Scholarship and the Opportunity Transfer Scholarship application has been extended until July 1st, 2020!
