Scholarships and Aid

Jacksonville State University is pleased to offer many scholarship opportunities to transfer students. Please note that all of the scholarships listed are for the 2020-2021 academic year (unless noted) and require that students be first-time transfer students at Jacksonville State University. These scholarships are not stackable.

Spring Supplemental Transfer Scholarship

First-Time Transfer students transferring directly from a community college with 45 transferable credit hours OR an Associate Degree and a 3.0 GPA (JSU calculated) or higher will qualify for the Spring Supplemental Transfer Scholarship. This scholarship will be automatically awarded through the beginning of the term to admitted students who qualify. There is no application for this scholarship. This is a non-renewable scholarship and students must enroll as full-time students (12 credit hours). Recipients of the Spring Supplemental Scholarship will be considered for Presidential or Academic Transfer Scholarships that will begin in the Fall semester and are renewable for four semesters. Spring transfer students may also apply for the competitive PTK Scholarship. STEP students are not eligible for this award.

  • $1,500 for students with a 3.5+ (JSU calculated) 
  • $750 for students with a 3.0 - 3.49 (JSU calculated) 

 

Presidential Transfer Scholarship

First-Time Transfer students transferring directly from a community college with 45 transferable credit hours OR an Associates Degree and a 3.5+ final transfer GPA (JSU calculated) will qualify for the Presidential Transfer Scholarship of $3,000 per semester for four semesters. Students must maintain a 3.0 institutional GPA and earn 12 credit hours each semester at JSU to maintain the scholarship. This scholarship will be automatically awarded through the beginning of the term to admitted students who qualify. There is no application for this scholarship. Students that are admitted or enrolled in the STEP RN to BSN or STEP RT to BSRT programs at JSU are NOT eligible to receive the Presidential Transfer Scholarship/Academic Transfer Scholarship.

Academic Transfer Scholarship

First-Time Transfer students transferring directly from a community college with 45 transferable credit hours OR an Associate Degree and a 3.0 - 3.49 final transfer GPA (JSU calculated) will qualify for the Academic Transfer Scholarship of $1,500 per semester for four semesters. Students must maintain a 3.0 institutional GPA and earn 12 credit hours each semester at JSU to maintain the scholarship. This scholarship will be automatically awarded through the beginning of the term to admitted students who qualify. There is no application for this scholarship. Students that are admitted or enrolled in the STEP RN to BSN or STEP RT to BSRT programs at JSU are NOT eligible to receive the Presidential Transfer Scholarship/Academic Transfer Scholarship.

STEP Transfer Scholarship

First-Time Transfer students transferring directly from a community college and have been accepted into JSU's STEP RN to BSN or STEP RT to BSRT with a 3.0+ final transfer GPA (JSU calculated) will qualify for the STEP Transfer Scholarship of $1,000 per semester for three semesters. This scholarship will be automatically awarded through the beginning of the term to admitted students who qualify. There is no application for this scholarship. Students must maintain a 3.0 institutional GPA to maintain the scholarship. The STEP Transfer Scholarship may only be applied towards Spring or Fall semesters. STEP Transfer Scholarships recipients are not eligible for the Spring Supplemental Scholarship. STEP Transfer Scholarship recipients are not eligible to receive the Presidential or Academic Transfer Scholarships.

Competitive Merit Scholarships (Requires Application)

Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship

First-Time Transfer students transferring directly from a community college and are members of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society with 45 transferable credit hours OR an Associate Degree with a 3.5+ final transfer GPA (JSU calculated) are eligible to apply for the PTK Scholarship. The PTK scholarship is competitive and requires an application. The PTK Scholarship pays $3,250 per semester for four semesters. Students must maintain a 3.0 institutional GPA and earn at least 12 credit hours each semester to maintain the scholarship. This scholarship is only awarded beginning in the Fall semester. This scholarship does not stack with the Presidential, Academic, or STEP Transfer Scholarships.

Opportunity Transfer Scholarship

First-Time Transfer students with a 3.0+ final transfer GPA (JSU calculated) are eligible to apply for the Opportunity Transfer Scholarship. The Opportunity Transfer Scholarship pays $500 per semester for four semesters. Students must submit an application for this scholarship. Students must maintain a 3.0 institutional GPA and earn at least 12 credit hours each semester to maintain the scholarship. This scholarship is only awarded beginning in the Fall semester. This scholarship is only awarded beginning in the Fall semester. This scholarship does not stack with the Presidential, Academic, or STEP Transfer Scholarships.

How to Apply for Transfer Scholarships

Transfer merit scholarships do not require an application. They are automatically awarded to students who qualify and have been admitted by the appropriate deadline. 

To apply for Competitive Transfer Scholarships, please complete the following steps:

  • Log in to JSU's Scholarship Manager (log in using your MyJSU username and password printed on your acceptance letter)
  • Once logged in, select "My Tasks"
  • Complete Transfer Scholarship applications for which you qualify/wish to be considered  
  • Complete the applications as instructed 
  • Visit JSU Scholarships to view more scholarship opportunities

Transfer Merit Scholarships will be automatically awarded upon admission.

Other Forms of Financial Aid

83% of JSU students are on some form of financial aid. To determine your eligibility, you'll need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online for the aid year you will be attending. Once you have completed the FAFSA and have supplied the required documents to JSU's Office of Financial Aid, you will receive official information from the Office of Financial Aid regarding any awards for which you may qualify.
